Preparing Racine's Four-Year-Olds for Kindergarten
Kindergarten readiness book set in Racine to be given to 4K students
For the last year and a half, we coordinated efforts with a team of volunteers led by Janice Clum, an RUSD teacher, and Joleen Carlson, the 4K Coordinator at RUSD, to bring the picture book, “Alexis and Anthony go to Kindergarten” to Racine’s four-year-old residents.
The book, set in Racine, touches on several skills that children should know when going into kindergarten and social-emotional skills that would benefit them as well. The ultimate goal of the book is to get four-year-olds excited about entering kindergarten and prepare families and students to start the school year ready to learn.
Higher Expectations worked on this project in partnership with the Racine Unified School District, Racine Community Foundation, SC Johnson, Educators Credit Union, Runzheimer, ButterBuds, Women United for Racine County and Kiwanis International.
The book will be given to current 4K students late this spring, and will continue to be handed out to all 4K students at RUSD, and Racine’s private and parochial schools.
