WHAT DO YOU DO FOR HIGHER EXPECTATIONS?
In my role, as the Data Fellow, I use data analysis and visualization tools in order to illuminate disparities and advance equity through evidence based decision making. This helps improve economic mobility for Racine residents by ensuring that all members of the next generation can have equal professional opportunities regardless of ethnicity, gender, or any other factor.
WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?
I was born in the Dominican Republic and I’m currently a senior Computer Science major at University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Before joining Higher Expectations for Racine County, I was a teaching assistant at Parkside in the Data Science department. In this role, I learnt my passion for helping other people and how data analysis can be used to do so, which is the main reason why I decided to join this team.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO IN RACINE COUNTY?
I really like how much greenery Racine County has. I enjoy going to parks, mainly Quarry Lake Park, and sometimes rent a kayak.
WHEN YOU WERE A KID, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP?
I loved watching robots on the TV, so I wanted to do something related to them.
WHAT MAKES YOU EXCITED TO BE A PART OF THE HIGHER EXPECTATIONS TEAM?
As a latino, I greatly appreciate being part of an organization that values diversity and inclusivity.
WHAT’S ONE THING YOU LOVE THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WORK?
I love learning foreign languages. They allow me to meet new people, learn about the different cultures of our beautiful world, and (of course) they open the door to many opportunities. My native language is Spanish, but I can handle myself well with English and French. I recently started studying German.
