Wisconsin Reading Corps, an evidence-based early grade tutoring program that is expanding to Racine in the next school year, recently hosted a program update at one of their target schools in Milwaukee. Higher Expectations partnered with Milwaukee Succeeds to earn state funding for Reading Corps, which enabled the program to expand beyond Milwaukee. Next year, several Racine Unified Schools will have Wisconsin Reading Corps tutors embedded in the building to provide one-on-one coaching and tutoring to targeted students each day.
At the Milwaukee College Prep School at Lloyd Street, attendees were able to watch and student and tutor work together on word blending and key skills that kindergarteners and early grade students need to be reading at grade level by third grade.
