In September, Higher Expectations' Employer Engagement Manager Carolynn Friesch and Racine Unified Chief of Secondary Transformation Dan Thielen attended a National Leadership Council Meeting for Ford NGL communities in Dearborn, Michigan.
The Ford Next Generation Leadership Council met to share their expertise, experiences, innovative ideas, and challenges to collectively advise and deepen the implementation of transformative initiatives in all of the Ford NGL communities. Currently, there are 21 designated Ford NGL communities, including RUSD.
Because of the work that Carolynn has completed in partnership with RUSD's Office of Secondary Transformation, she was invited to present to the communities about the impact of launching a Steering Committee within the High School Academies model. Here in Racine, Carolynn worked to convene an Academies of Racine Steering Committee that included employer representatives, teachers, and school staff. Last month, they met for a retreat to discuss the future of the Academies of Racine and the growing partnerships between employers and school staff. At her Leadership Council presentation, Carolynn provided advice, tools, and strategies related to the planning and execution of a Steering Committee retreat.
