This Spring, Higher Expectations partnered with Racine Area Manufacturers and Commerce (RAMAC) and the RUSD Academies of Racine to bring RUSD Academy students and staff together with local employers, employees, and organizations for an information session and tour at Washington Park High School. The Academies of Racine are small learning communities within RUSD High Schools that provide real-world experiences to students with local employers and professionals, linking schoolwork and the workplace.
During the luncheon, Student Ambassadors visited with employers and employees from Badger Meter, InSinkerator, RAMAC, and other area businesses. Participants heard from RUSD about the progress made to date in the Academies and plans for the future. After lunch, Park High School's Student Ambassadors provided tours of their career-pathway classrooms, where participants spoke with teachers about the impact that aligning curriculum with post-secondary and career skills has on their students.
As this first cohort of Academy students enters their sophomore year, they will be able to choose an Academy and begin coursework and work-based opportunties tailored to their career pathway. Higher Expectations continues to partner with RUSD to engage as many area employers as possible in the Academies of Racine. You can learn more about community and employer partnerships here.
